Tell us about your latest book, Lullaby of the Dead. What are the main character’s motivations?
Landry Sinclair is a murdered woman trying to make it in the world of the dead while she watches her murderer through the mirrors in the house she is trapped in. She is motivated by an intense need to find a way she and her fellow ghosts can escape their limbo. Landry also wants to make sure the man who took her life pays for his actions.
What is the message in Lullaby of the Dead?
If I had to pick just one message, it would be to live your life! Most of us spend our time working, and while we aren’t working, we’re thinking about work. So find a career you don’t need a vacation from. Don’t forget to build a life, not just an occupation.
Where do you draw your characters from?
Everyone and everything is up for grabs when it comes to my writing. My family and friends are inspirations, but I also turn to pieces of art (that’s how I came across my theme to Lullaby of the Dead), documentaries (where I found the plot to Mechaniclism), and unique people and events in history. As we are all shaped by the world around us, so are my stories. Writing gives me a chance to express my views of life and death.

My three must read books are: Cannery Row, by John Steinbeck, The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood, and The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss.
