That Unforgettable Kiss
A Touch Of Passion
Kate Callahan has always known that, someday, she’d run the family business. So men have always been merely a distraction for Kate; she just doesn’t have time for love.
Until fate steps in by way of a prophecy foretold, years ago, by a friend who’d been blessed with a remarkable gift. Kate has been warned that, one day, she’ll be kissed by fate. And love will happen with that unforgettable kiss.
Michael Murphy already has his life mapped out. After graduating with his degree in Architecture, he’ll be working at a prestigious firm in Chicago. When he arrives in the town of Crystal Rock to serve as an intern at Callahan Construction, the last thing he expects is his instant attraction to lovely crew boss, Kate Callahan.
Kate’s immediately drawn to Murphy, too. And sparks fly when they unite in an attempt to discover the identity of the thief who’s been stealing construction materials from her family’s company.
But how could a long-term relationship between them ever survive? They’re both young, with different dreams and goals. So even after their unforgettable kiss, Kate lets Murphy go.
Six years later, Kate’s finally admitted her mistake; she’s just never been able to forget that kiss. Devastated when she learns Michael Murphy’s become engaged, Kate comes up with a plan to try to win him back. But will she be too late?

A Touch Of Passion
About Kate:
Kate Callahan is the middle child of the Mike (Cal) and Jenny Callahan. Ever since she was a child, she was fascinated by wood-working and construction, and even tagged along with her father to his worksites. She also began a side business, when she was just a kid, using scrap lumber and materials to create tables and mosaic artwork.
But the Callahan family has had their share of tragedy. Jenny Callahan’s mother disappeared when she was a young child, so she was raised by her grandmother. Kate’s oldest sister, Lucy, was kidnapped when she was eighteen by a member of a human trafficking ring operating in the area, and was raped when she was attempting to escape. Even though Lucy was rescued, and eventually happily married, the assault had a deep-seeded psychological effect on the entire Callahan family. The specific effect that it’s had on a now nineteen year-old Kate has been to make her wary. She’s had numerous physical relationships, but only in an attempt to control her destiny, since her sister had been ‘waiting’ for the right man to come along when she was assaulted.

About Murphy:
It takes Murphy the majority of the summer, but he knows that Kate is the only woman for him. But he eventually backs off, when she pushes him away. What else can he do? His future is already mapped out.

Distractedly, Murphy listened as Kate continued her tirade.
“That floor needs to dry at least another forty-eight hours before we can even apply a second coat of polyurethane – let alone walk on it.”
Lifting his boot to move forward, Murphy heard a pop of sticky suction. “Uhh-humm.”
And then he grimaced.
Kate’s gaze immediately dropped down to Murphy’s feet.
Reluctantly following the direction of her gaze, he stared sheepishly down at his boots. “I guess…I didn’t realize…”
Suddenly, she snorted.
Murphy’s eyes jerked up to Kate’s face. She definitely didn’t appear to be angry anymore. He studied her suspiciously when she hastily turned away, covering her face with her hands.
Apparently hearing the commotion, Luke Arnett scrambled up the steps of the porch to join them. Glancing at Murphy’s feet, he gaped. But then he quickly regrouped. When the crew boss peered into the cabin, he began to groan, “Damn it, Murphy. What in the hell have you done now?” He shook his head with exasperation. “Get the hell out of there. Go back out the same way you came in – before you do any more damage. That floor’s gonna need to be sanded right away again once it’s dry.”
Gazing down at his boots, Murphy immediately realized he had an even bigger problem. A healthy dusting of sawdust and pine needles covered the uneven surface of the construction area. The sticky soles of his boots were picking up more and more debris, as he made his way through the work zone, and his feet were becoming heavier.
When Murphy eventually stomped up from the path into the parking lot, obviously off-balance in his weighted boots, Kate Callahan began laughing so hard she nearly fell to the ground. When she finally attempted to speak, she stopped laughing just long enough to stare down at Murphy’s feet.
And then, she began laughing helplessly again.
Murphy grinned, rolling his eyes. Waiting her out, he ineffectively attempted to scrape away some of the pine needles and debris sticking to the soles of his boots. Bending down to untie his laces, he slipped the boots from his feet and dropped them into the bed of Kate’s pickup.
“Are you about done, now?” he finally asked. “We’d better get outta here before someone sees us. It’s a good thing you gave me these beat-up boots to wear when we made our plans. I would’ve ruined my good ones, for sure.
Still chuckling, she motioned him into her truck. “Well. Our diversion obviously worked – even though I almost blew it by laughing at you. You’ve got access to the entire construction site now, during the day.” Kate hopped into the driver’s seat.
“Yeah.” Turning to study her from the passenger seat, Murphy dryly

He let out a deep breath when Kate finally stepped out of the door. He hadn’t even realized he’d been holding it. Distracted, he forgot about the ladder with its bucket of paint hanging from a hook. Twisting around with the paint roller still in his hand, he bumped into the ladder.
And the open bucket of primer tipped over, pouring out over the top of his head.
As the paint drizzled down through Murphy’s hair, and dripped down to cover his face, Luke stared at Murphy in stunned disbelief. “Damn it, Murphy. I don’t think I’ve ever worked with anyone who was as much of a klutz as you are.”
Sheepishly, Murphy grinned, attempting to dig the paint out from his eyes. It’d actually been an accident, knocking over the paint. If Kate Callahan had this much of an effect on him, now, how in the hell was he gonna able to work with her for the next few weeks?
- c) & d)
Murphy finally admitted to himself that, subconsciously, he must’ve been watching out for Kate since the first time he’d seen her.
And then he gazed into her eyes. Right now, they were a deep and fiery shade of blue.
Probably because of the anger she was directing toward him, Murphy suddenly realized as he finally, consciously, became aware of his surroundings. He turned, staring hard at the walls he’d just finished painting. He was having a little bit of trouble portraying the incompetent intern.
And Kate seemed to be totally unaware of her father’s plans for subterfuge. She didn’t look happy as she inspected the walls and floors inside the cabin. Luckily, he’d spread out papers over the wooden floor to protect it.
When crew boss, Luke Arnett, stepped inside the cabin, he groaned, covering his face with his hands. “Murphy. I thought you said you knew how to paint?”
Kate’s gaze was curious when she turned to study Murphy.
Murphy cleared his throat. “Ah, well…I’ve painted my parents’ – uh…garage.”
Rolling her eyes, Kate sighed.
Luke shook his head. “I’m not sure what I’m gonna be able to do with this guy, Kate,” he grumbled. “I had him up on the roof – but instead of laying out shingles along the bottom of the roofline like we showed him, he began way up at the peak. It took us a couple of hours to get things straight.
“You probably knew me better than I knew myself,” he whispered. And his forehead fell to hers. “Oh, Kate, I know I haven’t said this yet, but I love you so much.”
“Oh, Michael,” she answered softly. “I love you like crazy, too.”
